How is Allergic Reaction caused?

  • The metal present in the wedding bands gets reacted with the external water, sweat etc and cause allergy. The sweat contains some salts which have sodium as content. This sodium reacts with the metal and cause allergy to skin and even affect to the durability of wedding band.
  • Men’s wedding band comprises of metal alloys which are mixtures of various elements including hydrogen, oxygen, copper, niobium, nickel, iron and gold.
  • Sometimes direct sunlight or contact with polluted water also causes allergic affects. The faded colors of wedding bands show the occurrence of these reactions.
  • Finger size increases during summer and reduces in winters thus wedding rings could be tight in the finger of person. This could also create problem and some sort of allergy to the finger.

Content of Wedding Bands

  • Wedding rings are made of 14k or 18k gold, sterling silver, platinum or titanium. 14k gold is 58.3% pure and 18k is 75% pure and are mixed with other alloys such as silver, zinc, copper, palladium and nickel. These alloys are mixed in order to provide durability against wear and tear. Pure 24 k gold is pure but is soft and is not compatible for daily use.
  • These alloys are even used to provide shine and different luster to these wedding bands.

In order to Avoid Allergic Reactions

  • Use the wedding bands or wedding rings that fix your finger completely. They should not be tight or loose.
  • Hypoallergenic jewelry is good option for avoiding allergic reactions. In this context Sterling silver, platinum and titanium metals are used. Platinum rings contain 90 % pure metal, they are expensive too. It doesn’t tarnish like gold and doesn’t lose its luster over time, but gets scratched.
  • Titanium is also extremely lightweight and 99+% pure. It does not react to salt water, sunlight thus it is 100% hypoallergenic. These rings are even affordable.
